Mixing Gods and Missing God + Sunday Morning Resources

This Sunday, in Acts 14, we’ll meet a crowd that sees God do something incredible... and totally misunderstands what they’re seeing. But before we sit in judgment, the truth is we’re not that different. We all come to Jesus with ideas about what will make us happy, secure, and whole. The danger is that instead of allowing Jesus to challenge those beliefs, we simply try to fit Him inside them.
But Jesus didn’t come to play a supporting role in the story we’re already writing. He came to be Lord of our lives. This Sunday, we’ll wrestle with a simple question: Am I allowing Jesus to be Lord of every part of my life?
Also, remember that this Sunday afternoon is our annual All-Church Picnic & Baptisms! Join us at Pioneer Park beginning at 4:00pm for food, games, and time together, followed by baptisms at 7:00pm. Our cooking team will be grilling up the main course free of charge. We just ask you to bring a side or dessert to share.

It’s easy to think that becoming more like Jesus requires us to separate ourselves from the world around us. But what if we’ve misunderstood what it means to follow Jesus and live righteously? This Sunday, we’ll continue our journey through the book of Acts as Peter discovers that God’s law was never intended to build barriers, but bridges. We’ll wrestle with a question that every follower of Jesus needs to answer: Have I been living as an ambassador to my community, or have I been insulating myself from it? I think you’ll find that this story speaks directly into the way we live today. Speaking of living as ambassadors to our community, one of the ways we get to put that into practice is through Hope for Nevada County this Saturday from 9am-noon at Nevada Union High School. Thousands of our neighbors will come for practical help like backpacks, school supplies, shoes, haircuts, and other resources. Today is the final day of VBS, and I want to celebrate what God has been doing this week. Throughout this week, over 250 kids have been exploring one life-changing question: “Who is Jesus to me?” And yesterday, dozens of children made the eternity-altering decision to place their faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord. We are incredibly grateful for your prayers throughout the week and for the many, many volunteers who invested their time, energy, and love to make VBS possible. Thank you for helping us create an environment where kids could encounter Jesus in a meaningful way. This Sunday, we'll continue our journey through the book of Acts as we look at Stephen, one of those deacons we talked about last week, being confronted by the religious leaders. In a world filled with noise, conflict, and constant distractions, Stephen shows us what it looks like to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. This weekend, we will explore a key question that is pertinent to every one of us: What is shaping the way you see the world? Because what captures our attention ultimately shapes our perspective, influences our decisions, and determines how we interpret the circumstances around us.
